Tip #5 ALWAYS READ RISK ASSESSMENTS 🙏
A risk assessment is a document produced for every setup on a production, identifying potential hazards, analysing the risk and outlining control measures to prevent harm to cast, crew and public.
It exists to protect you and your colleagues when working on a film or TV production.
However, it’s often overlooked by individuals who believe they already understand the hazards and how to protect against them, and is sometimes treated as a simple box-ticking exercise.
It’s of paramount importance to always read risk assessments for your safety, as they often contain new information that may not have been considered.

🎬 A lovely photo of the cast and crew of I Swear, a touching film recently released and written, directed and produced by our patron, Kirk Jones. The film is based on the true story of John Davidson, who was diagnosed with Tourette’s syndrome.
Before filming began, to ensure the safety of all cast and crew on set, Kirk required everyone involved to complete our ScreenSkills Level 2 Health and Safety Passport course, which he also wrote and directed! 👏
Kirk says:
“All members of crew and production on #ISwear received a talk from me about Mark, the Foundation and why I felt so passionately about writing and directing the H&S passport. I would never have started shooting until I was confident that everyone had taken the course and was taking health and Safety seriously.”

Today marks World Mental Health Day 💚
It’s an important reminder of the value of mental wellbeing, both in life and on set.
At the Foundation, we believe that a mentally healthy crew is a safer crew.
That’s why we’ve dedicated an entire chapter to mental health in our ScreenSkills Level 2 Health & Safety course.

🎬 Tip #4 – Don’t step up to the next position until you’re ready.
It’s imperative to make sure you have the skills and training relevant to the job you’re stepping up to. Being under-qualified or inexperienced is a health and safety issue.
Yes, it’s tempting to accept a job that’s the next rung on the ladder, but be responsible and ask yourself, do I have the skills? If not, you could be putting yourself and those around you in potential danger.
