A Message From The Film & TV Charity – Ref COVID-19

18th March 2020

The Film and TV Charity remains open during this difficult time. They’re working hard to support people who work in our industry.

If you’re facing financial hardship you should read the guidance provided on their website and look at all of your options, including the emergency measures put in place by some banks and HMRC, before getting in touch. If, having considered all of your options, you’re facing an urgent and immediate need for financial assistance, the charity may be able to offer one-off grants. You can complete the financial support form immediately. You don’t need to call their Support Line.

With the situation changing rapidly, it’s important to look after your mental health. Lots of people are talking about COVID-19 or coronavirus at the moment and this can make us feel even more anxious. You’re not alone. A lot of people will be feeling this way right now. You can ask for help. The charity can provide a listening ear and can also quickly refer you to trained counsellors who can provide more structured support over the phone. It’s important to stay in connected with friends and family as well.

If you’re looking for legal advice and/or emotional, or any other kind of support, you’re encouraged to use the Live Chat function on their website rather than calling, where you will reach a friendly advisor who can talk to you about your options.

When there’s a crisis, it’s good to remember that people often come together to support each other and help others out. Doing things in your community can help you to feel like you’re making a difference. As the charity supporting the UK industry in times of crisis and opportunity, The Film and TV Charity is entirely reliant on donations and welcomes individual and corporate donations from those who can afford to contribute. Please note that they’re currently unable to provide voluntary opportunities. Donate today or email their Head of Fundraising Tom.Woodward@filmtvcharity.org.uk if you’re able to give more

Mark Milsome – 2nd Anniversary

12th November 2019

November 18th marks the second anniversary of Mark Milsome’s death.

The Mark Milsome Foundation would like to clarify that we do not intend to repeat Black-T-Week this year but instead ask that you consider wearing your existing Black T during this period as a sign of respect. Please feel free to post your pictures to social media.

We are incredibly grateful for your support in our first year and as a small thank you we will soon be giving away Foundation stickers and badges at locations including Panavision and Arri.

You can also contact us with your address if you are working on a production and ask for badges for the crew which will be sent to you free of charge.

To honour the second anniversary, the Foundation is launching #PrintsForMark,

A photographic project that we hope will see acclaimed Cinematographers donating high quality prints of their own personal work.
Once the collection is established (online in our virtual gallery and physically on display at a venue to be announced) we will consider auctioning some of the prints to raise funds for the Foundation, building on the idea initiated by Mark Purvis at Mission Digital

The Foundation is in the process of contacting DPs, but if you would like to submit prints for this project, please feel free to email mail us here

We thank you for your continued support.

MMF First Aid Course

17th September 2019

As part of its commitment to make a positive contribution to overall health and safety in the film industry, the Foundation ran a trial first-aid course at the end of August. The one-day course was open to all Mark Milsome and Guild of British Camera Technicians trainees, as well as members of the Foundation. The day was a huge success and we hope to make these a regular event in the future. Huge thanks to Suzanne Stickley of First Aid Matters for running the course and to our friends at Panavision for making the day possible. We will be aiming to run another First Aid Course before the year is out.

The Foundation are proud to announce the first two recipients of the Mark Milsome ‘Foot In The Door’ Mentorship Award.

Following a final round of interviews at Panavision London a panel of eight Foundation members selected Daisy Allen (Falmouth University School of Film and Television) and Davey MacDonald (University of South Wales).

They Did It..!

25th February 2019

They did it! On Sunday 24 February, Alex Parish, Alex Hollowbread and Jack Metcalfe ran the half-marathon in Naples, Italy. We are so honoured that they made the Mark Milsome Foundation their charity of choice. At the time of writing, they have managed to raise an impressive £2,533 — more than twice their original target figure when they launched their campaign back in November 2018! And it’s all thanks to your generosity. We can’t thank them, and you, enough.

We wish them a safe journey home and look forward to catching up with them soon. More photos to follow, but for now, we’ll leave you with this picture of our champions and their Mark Milsome T-shirts (of course!) on completion of their 13.10969 mile run (or 21.098 km if you’re in Italy)…
